Which Foods Can I Eat After Dental Implant Surgery?

If you are considering dental implant surgery, it is advisable to be prepared with all the dos and don’ts. You should have the things you need after the surgery ready beforehand, and the first item on that list is food!

Meals to Eat After Dental Implant Surgery

Liquid Foods

After a dental implant surgery, you should eat any type of food that doesn’t have to be chewed a lot, starting with liquid food. Light broths, smooth soup, fruit juices and smoothies, protein drinks, milk, and meal replacement liquids are some good choices. Liquids with high calcium content are excellent for your teeth.

An important note: using straws sounds like a good idea, but it must be avoided because the suction puts pressure on the new implants.

Soft Foods

After the surgery, your mouth will not immediately recover from the numbing agents used during the procedure. If you try to chew too much, you might end up biting your tongue or your mouth. We can’t have that happening, which is why you should stick to soft food that is easy on the teeth. Well-cooked cereal meals (unappealing as it sounds, you can always use delicious add-ons!), applesauce, yogurt, creamy soups, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, cheese, and softly cooked fish are a few options.

Some Things to Avoid

First things first: never skip meals! You may not feel like eating, but getting adequate nutrition is essential. Don’t indulge in physically exerting activities for at least a few days. It is also important to refrain from smoking or consuming alcohol for at least a week. Stay hydrated, and follow your dental regimen as advised by your doctor.

These food categories and items are generally considered safe for intake after a dental implant, but naturally, they vary according to the individual’s surgery and tastes. Your dentist will instruct you on what to eat and avoid.
